4. Game Controls

This game manual is for Universe version 0.8. Below is a picture of the main program screen:

There are four parts to this screen, the menu, the toolbar, the status window and the tip line. These four parts are described below:

4.1. Menu

4.1.1. File

4.1.1.1. Exit

This selection will exit the game.

4.1.2. Game

4.1.2.1. Submit

This selection submits the current turn for processing.

4.1.3. Window

The window menu brings up a list of screens that are used for game play. These are the same screens that can be access through the Toolbar.

This selection pops up a dialog letting you change game options. Currently none of the options are functional.

4.1.5. Help

4.1.5.1. About

This selection pops up a dialog telling about the Universe Game System. The current version number and copyright information can be found here.

4.1.5.2. Manual

This selection pops up a dialog gives the URL for the online manual (which you are currently reading.)

4.2. Toolbar

4.2.1. Results Window

This button brings up a window that describes what has happened during the last turn. More information about the results can be found in the Results Window section.

4.2.2. Star Map

This button brings up a window that is a 3D map of the galaxy. More information about the star map can be found in the Star Map section.

4.2.3. Galaxy List

This button brings up a window that lists all the galaxies in the game. More information about the galaxy list can be found in the Galaxy List section.

4.2.4. System List

This button brings up a window that lists all the star systems in the game. More information about the system list can be found in the System Window section.

4.2.5. Planet List

This button brings up a window that lists all the known planets in the game. More information about the planet list can be found in the Planet List section.

4.2.6. Station List

This button brings up a window that lists all the known stations in the game. More information about the station list can be found in the Station List section.

4.2.7. Fleet List

This button brings up a window that lists all the known fleets in the game. More information about the fleet list can be found in the Fleet List section.

4.2.8. Research List

This button brings up a window that lists information about current research in the game. More information about the research list can be found in the Research List section.

4.2.9. Alien Screen

This button brings up a window that lists information about alien races in the galaxy. More information about the alien list can be found in the Alien List section.

4.2.10. Submit Turn

The submit turn button submits the current turn for processing.

4.3. Status Window

The status window is the center part of the screen that displays informational messages about the game. Turn processed is one of the many messages that will appear here.

4.4. Tip Line

The tip line updates when the mouse moves over buttons in the toolbar. This line is a reminder as to what these buttons do just in case the icons are not obvious.
